A huge teacher in the past decade of my life has been an iatrogenic condition
caused by adolescent usage of prescription corticosteroids (Red Skin Syndrome,
www.itsan.org).
When my skin “flares”, I feel like hot lava lizard girl covered with oozing swollen raw skin, un-usable hands,
biding hours of volcanic itch covered in ice packs. Yeeeow. Hello, mind/body connection.
Teacher, teach me. Pain is inevitable / suffering is optional? Oof. Ok. Cool. We all got stuff.
Once during a peak in grotesque discomfort, I received a question that changed me.
My spiritual mentor asked in the sweetest way,
“Honey, who and how would you be Being right now
if you knew there was nothing *wrong* with this moment?”
Revelation pierced through! My resistant ego was cracked open to reveal
the inner, surrendered lover who knows that my Love only gives me life.
“Everything I see, hear, touch, feel, taste speak, think, imagine,
is completing a perfect circle God has drawn.” -Meister Eckhart
I began to trust this perfect curriculum to teach me how to anchor in unconditional “all is well”
& let the holy instant unfurl the latent miracle.
The original layer of the song “Just so that you know….”
speaks to us from this realm of unseen grace and support,
from G*d, from bright & well ancestors, from beloveds who’ve got our back.
In my experience we pass this sacred holding around for each other:
I’ll hold it for you when you forget, and vice versa. We don’t all always have to remember.
Patricia Norton added a “well held” bass line when she featured this song in her amazing podcast, Breath of Song.
When Michael & I recorded this spring, I adapted and built on her bass line and layered harmonies.
The 3rd part arrived like a cherry on top, building on wisdom from New Thought writer Wallace Wattles,
and might be my favorite lines of the whole album to belt out.... :)
