Inspired by 1 John 4:18 from somewhere deep in my childhood Bible brain:
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.“

Caught 2008ish? When I lived in St Louis MO,
I would wrap myself in this melody to traverse up the echoey dark four flights
of the mostly abandoned Lemp warehouse to get to my art studio safely.
I was learning by doing, casting a circle, choosing to be safe, believing in & broadcasting song medicine.
The acoustics there made everything epic.

Years later this song became the first ever song I led in the community singing tradition,
call & echo style @ Village Fire 2014.
My soul leapt into an instantaneous laugh-cry-gasm
the very moment i heard and felt myself reflected back by the circle---
it was a total homecoming,
my bones remembering and receiving Village.

This is the only song on the album Linder & i recorded vocals and instruments simultaneously, to play into and with each other. He was finding an accompaniment on the marimba on the spot, so notes still real fresh — after a great take, he hit a ‘wrong’ note but then stayed with it in this lilting jazz-ploration into thrumming final chord resolve and whew i loved it ---to me it was doin what the song is meaning . . . . like living into Love,
we don’t nail it cuz -we- aren’t perfect, but Love is and when we brave up to stick with it,
we can find our way inside to what we already are.
No fear. Love is Here. Xx
