So many moments in my life, Water is teacher + healer + friend + pleasure-giver + lifter + drencher.
“Just float. Just flow. I got you.....”
I love water.
And always have, childhood pool-rat, teenage lifeguard, wild water skinny-dipper.....
but it took on a new dimension when at Standing Rock in 2016, I witnessed water ceremony
and received instructions to infuse activism with prayerfulness.
Mní Wičóni = Lakota for “Water is Life”

Devotion for this essential life element increasingly feels to me like a key
of coming home to belonging with the More than Human World.
And stewarding these resources as kin.

In March 2021, Carolyn Griffeth, my ritual-catching soulsister and founder of EarthKeepers Wisdom School,
(in collaboration with water advocate Isabel Friend)
dreamed in a simple potent household ritual to honor, uplift, and restructure water.
Carolyn invited me to catch a song for this ritual
utilizing some key phrases of Japanese researcher and healer, Dr. Masaru Emoto,
who discovered the words that water likes best:
“We thank you water. We love you water. We respect you water. You are Life!”

So I went for a hike to the land currently known as Kickapoo State Park
and asked the waters there (a pond, post coal-mine) for a song.
This simple mantra came as a response -- a basic matrix
to hold the embellishment of our harmonies and the power of our prayers.

May our attention and our love support the restoration, vitality, & healing power of living Water.
